The Center provides assistance to the Washington Health Care Authority (HCA) and its partners focused on improving the quality and efficiency of care and improving the health of residents. The Center’s work supports a collaborative of private and public health insurers working to align health care efforts in the state, focused on the transformation of primary care delivery and payment. A new aligned  model will seek to create better health and better care for patients, smarter spending of public and private health care dollars, and improve clinical experience for providers.

The Center assists the Washington Health Care Authority (HCA) and the Washington Multi-payer Collaborative in strengthening and supporting advanced primary care in Washington. On July 9, 2024, Center staff joined HCA, the Washington Multi-payer Collaborative, and guests in Olympia, Washington, to celebrate the signing of the Multi-payer Collaborative’s memorandum of understanding (MOU) committing to alignment on key policies to advance high-quality advanced primary care. Guests included representatives from the Washington State Legislature, the CMS Innovation Center, and a range of primary care provider, purchaser, and payer organizations.

The CMS Innovation Center (CMMI) also signed a Memorandum of Understanding that commits to ongoing participation in the Washington Multi-payer Collaborative to foster collaborative support strategies for primary care and to align messaging and engagement strategies between the Washington primary care model and the federal Making Care Primary model.
